Rules

Breaking a rule earns a warning, a timeout, a kick or a ban, depending on the harm done. Staff rulings are final. Appeal them in a ticket, never in public channels.

Terms

• IC/OOC separation. In character (IC) is the story; out of character (OOC) is the players. Characters may hate, love or betray each other; players stay friendly. Your character knows only what happened to them in play, never what was said OOC.
• Alternate universe (AU). Courts Unbound uses the world, courts and magic of A Court of Thorns and Roses, but no canon character exists and no canon event after the Treaty happened. The story is set twenty years after the War of Thorns, and players write what comes next.
• Long-form roleplay. Scenes written as prose, by post. Each post is paragraphs, not one-liners: action, thought and dialogue, ending with something your partners can answer.

Community

1. 21+ only. Any sign that you are younger means a ban.
2. Accounts six months or older. A younger Discord account needs a vouch from a member with an approved character, or a censored ID shown to staff in a ticket.
3. Be respectful. No hostility, passive aggression, baiting or flaming. Disagreement is fine; disrespect is not.
4. No bigotry. Homophobia, transphobia, racism and sexism are not tolerated out of character. Fantasy prejudice may be explored in character only with everyone's consent.
5. No drama. Take personal conflicts off the server. Keep debates on religion, politics and current events elsewhere.
6. Respect staff. Use #ask-staff and #submit-a-ticket. Never DM staff about server business.
7. No plagiarism. Credit art. Do not reuse writing from other sites, even your own.
8. English only, so staff can moderate.
9. Spoilers for recent books go in #spoilers.

Roleplay

1. No canon characters. No canon character exists, may be named as kin, lover or acquaintance, or may be used as a face claim.
2. No godmodding or metagaming. Control only your character. Use only what your character knows.
3. Stay inside your sheet. Use only the abilities, ranks and items your approved profile and ledger list.
4. Big changes need staff approval: killing outside death-enabled play, ruining a named location, seizing a court, killing a plot-relevant NPC.
5. Death-enabled play follows Combat and Sagas. Outside it, nobody kills your character without your consent.
6. Liquid time. You may be in many threads at once; keep their order believable. In-character time runs at twice real time.
7. Posting order is the order of joining. After 48 hours of silence a player may be skipped.
8. Characters: two are free. Each further character needs 30 in-character posts on your newest one.
9. One account per person. No alternate accounts to dodge limits or votes.

Content and consent

1. Public channels fade to black. Romance is welcome. Explicit sex is not, anywhere public.
2. Explicit content lives only in #after-dark, inside private threads, between players who all hold @NSFW Romance. Invite only those players.
3. Ask first. Never start romance or sexual content with someone who has not opted in, by role and in conversation. Consent can be withdrawn at any moment; stop when it is.
4. Hard limits: nothing sexual involving anyone under 18 in age or appearance, no sexual violence played for titillation, no real people.
5. Violence and dark themes are allowed. Warn for torture, abuse and self-harm, and respect anyone who opts out.
6. IC is not OOC. What characters do is not what players think. Flirting with or pressuring a player out of character ends in a ban.
