The guide

Twelve pages, from the War of Thorns to the Cauldron's shards. No stats and no dice: just what you need to write.

00

Setting

Twenty years ago the War of Thorns ended with all seven High Lords of Prythian dead within a single bloody season.

01

Courts

Every character belongs to one allegiance: one of the seven courts, the Courtless or the Outlaws. Ranks are in Ranks; open rank claims are in #claims.

02

Ranks

Rank is standing, not power. It decides which missions you may take, where you may go and whom you may command.

03

Abilities

There are no stats here. A character is their writing plus a short list of abilities.

04

Progression

Abilities grow the way skills do: through practice, study, battle and story. Progress is counted in qualifying threads, recorded by staff when a thread…

05

Renown, Bounty & Marks

Three numbers, kept by staff in #ledger-log: Renown: how famous you are, and how your court treats you. Bounty: how badly the courts want an outlaw dead.

06

Combat

These rules cover real fights: hostile, with an unknown outcome, between players or against a staff-run foe.

07

Missions

Missions are focused stories: a task, a danger, a reward. They are the most reliable way to earn Renown and Marks, and good missions make good stories.

08

Claims

Some things are limited: high ranks, faces, forbidden magic, relics. You claim them in the registers in #claims before you build a character around them.

09

Character Creation

Writing is the core of this server. There are no stat blocks: a character is a story, a personality and a short list of abilities.

10

Market

Marks are earned by grading threads (see Renown, Bounty & Marks). Every new character starts with 500.

11

Sagas

Sagas are the main story of Courts Unbound: player-driven, death-enabled events whose outcomes change Prythian.
