Claims

Some things are limited: high ranks, faces, forbidden magic, relics. You claim them in the registers in #claims before you build a character around them. Do not design a character on the assumption that a claim will succeed.

Rank claims

Start a new character above Sworn or Wanderer. Existing characters are never promoted by claim.

Open at launch, per court:

  • 3 Courtiers
  • 2 Emissaries
  • 1 High Lord or Lady

Open at launch, courtless: 4 C-Class, 3 B-Class, 2 A-Class. Courtless claims may also be outlaws, at the matching bounty class.

How to claim: reply in the Rank Claims register with the position you want and a roleplay sample of at least 300 words, or 500 words for a throne. Staff judge grammar, vocabulary, voice, attitude and activity. The higher the rank, the stricter the bar.

  • A failed claim may be retried after two weeks and ten posts.
  • A player may hold three rank claims at most, each in a different allegiance (Courtless and Outlaw count as one). Only one throne per player.
  • Once approved: a WIP profile within 3 days, ready for review within 7 days, or the claim lapses.
  • Claimed characters start with their rank's Renown.

Probation

Claimed ranks carry other players' stories, so they carry duties for their first three months:

  • Courtier, C-Class: at least 1 in-character post a week.
  • Emissary, B-Class, A-Class: at least 2 a week.
  • High Lord or Lady: at least 3 a week, plus one court mission or court event each month.

Report absences in a ticket in #submit-a-ticket. Staff warn you once when you near the limit; the next miss loses the claim and archives the character. After three months, a High Lord or Lady's title is permanent.

Thrones

  • An empty throne is held by a staff regent.
  • A claimed throne changes hands only by stepping down, by death, or through an approved saga (see Sagas). It is never won in an ordinary challenge.
  • When a throne empties, its rank claim reopens.

Face claims

  • Any adult face: drawn, painted or a real adult person. No minors, no art of canon characters.
  • One face per character, and no face already claimed.
  • Reserve a face in the Face Claims register for 5 days while you write; claim it on approval.

Special claims

Forbidden magic (see Abilities) must be claimed before it can be learned at all.

  • You need an approved character with 50 in-character posts.
  • Reply in the Special Claims register with a roleplay sample and your character's reason.
  • Staff choose the most fitting applicant. The prize is not the magic but a quest for it, run by staff, death-enabled and likely deadly.
  • Cauldron-Making may also be gained through the Remade path (see Sagas).

Relic claims

The Dread Trove: the Mask, the Harp and the Crown, scattered since the war.

  • A relic is bound to a bearer on-screen by a ruler or regent, and only to a character with 30+ in-character posts.
  • Its power fills its own slot, in three forms: Bound, Awakened and Ascendant. Each form advances like an ability. Reaching Substantial Mastery opens a staff-run trial for the next form.
  • Bearers are common knowledge. Hiding a relic is nearly impossible.
  • A bearer silent for a month without notice is presumed lost to the relic, and it returns to the world.

Unique relics (wodSouls special items) appear one at a time. When one enters play, staff open applications in the Relic Claims register and vote on the bearer. Another appears only once the current one is destroyed or lost. Rules for each are posted with it.
